Congratulations to Lily Brames and Katelyn Chau, both in seventh grade at ESCS, who traveled to Orlando to participate in the state-wide fair held on March 31 – April 2, 2015. Ms. Brames’s project won the Polk County Regional Science and Engineering Fair Award for demonstrating outstanding creativity and innovation. Ms. Chau’s project received the Mu Alpha Award – Certificate of Recognition, awarded to the individual demonstrating the most challenging, thorough and creative investigation of a problem. These projects were singled out among the 11,000 projects represented in the 37 Florida Regional Science & Engineering Fairs held around the state this year. Of those, only 840 projects advanced to the State Science & Engineering Fair. Over 1.8 million science projects were completed in the state of Florida during the 2014-15 school year.
Espiritu Santo eighth grade students just returned from an adventure they will never forget — Sea Camp in the Florida keys! Students participated in a program sponsored by the Newfound Harbor Maine Institute in Big Pine Key. By all accounts, our students had a blast; they spent their days exploring marine life by snorkeling, swimming in a shark pond, staging an alge party and dissecting squid. Rumor has it there was a massive sing-off around the campfire after the s’mores ran out. These eighth graders made memories to cherish on this trip. Thank you to Coach Wickett, Coach Daily, Mr. DeNote and Ms. DeMarinis (along with the four additional instructors from the Institute) for chaperoning this crazy crew this week and providing an incredible experience for our students.
On Saturday, April 11th, Espiritu Santo’s seventh-grade Odyssey of the Mind team competed at the State of Florida Odyssey of the Mind competition in Orlando. Team members Alfonso Vargas, Mark Rumsey, Dominick Vona, Patrick Krueger, Dominic Cosentino, Tyler Beach, and Michael Hayworth presented a solution to the problem ‘Runaway Train’ and won 7th place out of the 16 teams competing in their division. They did a fabulous job, making their parents, coaches and the entire ESCS community proud.
Parents, family and friends are all welcome at Espiritu Santo’s Sight and Sound Discovery Night! Join us on May 6th in Padua Hall as we listen to the sounds of the Espiritu Santo Chorus, elementary school Band and guitar students. After the concert, take a stroll through the “ESCS Art Gallery” to enjoy the amazing work that our students have produced throughout the year. If you are new to ESCS and would like more information, please contact Mary Mansour, Director of Admissions, at (727) 812-4650.
