Espíritu Diocesan Math Bowl

Last Friday, Espiritu hosted an elementary school Math Bowl for grades third through fifth. We had 144 mathletes from twelve different schools in the Diocese of St. Petersburg here competing. Our twelve mathletes from Espiritu did an amazing job.  Our students placed in the following categories:

Fourth grade:

Second place overall in the Fact Blast category where students had to answer as many addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems as they could in two minutes.

Fifth grade swept the individual competitions:

First, Second and Third place in Fact Blast

First, Second and Third place in Mental Math

First and Second place in the team competition Logical Reasoning

Overall school winner for fifth grade

We are so proud of our mathletes!

Trike-A-Thon: Students Raise Over $7,000 For St. Jude’s

Trike-A-Thon
Students Raise Over $7,000 For St. Jude’s

On Friday, January 25 the Espiritu National Junior Honor Society hosted a Trike-A-Thon for our preschool and kindergarten students to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. We were able to raise over $7,000.00 for St. Jude’s, far exceeding our goal. We’d like to thank all the families and friends of Espiritu for their contributions and the National Junior Honor Society students for planning and running such a fantastic event. We hope this will become an annual event at Espiritu.

Academically Gifted Program: Innovation In The Classroom

Ozbot
The students in the Academically Gifted Program at ESCS have a new friend. They have welcomed Ozobot with enthusiasm and excitement. Ozobot is a robot that teaches sequential thinking, logical reasoning, and coding concepts. It is a great resource for introducing coding to elementary/middle school students. The students tell the robot what to do based on the codes they use and create. We started off with pre-printed materials to learn the codes. Then the students were able to create their own paths for the Ozobot using those codes. Eventually, the children will learn to code the Ozobot themselves. They are having so much fun and learning more than they realize!
