At Espiritu Santo, students have many opportunities to develop skill and confidence through the performing arts. In addition to their weekly Essentials class in Music, students explore music theory and dramatic expression in several extra-curricular programs.

Two student chorus groups, led by Mrs. Whitehurst, meet after school once a week to prepare for concerts and local performances. In the past, the Espiritu Santo Chorus has performed for the City of Safety Harbor at the Veteran’s Day Memorial Service, Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting and at the library. They also carol at various locations, such as assisted living facilities, during the holiday season. The Chorus caps their year with a performance at Espiritu Santo’s annual Sight & Sound event in May.
Students in grades 4 – 8 can improve music theory and performance skills by learning to play an instrument in a traditional band setting. A spring concert is scheduled to showcase their progress through the year.
Guitar Lessons
Mrs. Whitehurst leads weekly group lessons for students interested in learning guitar. Their work is showcased at the Sight & Sound event in May.
Students in grades seven and eight earn the privilege of producing ESCNN, Espiritu Santo’s own daily in-house news program. ESCNN is produced in the Espiritu Santo green room and is broadcast to each homeroom at the beginning of every day. Students rotate through roles for each show, taking turns at production, anchor, weather, and prayer responsibilities.
Christmas Programs
All students participate in Espiritu Santo’s Christmas Programs. Younger students in grades Pre-K – 4 work with their teachers and Mrs. Whitehurst on choral and dramatic arrangements that celebrate the Christmas season and the birth of our Savior. Students in grades 5 – 8 participate in a Christmas Play, produced by Mr. Carbonaro and the Middle School Drama Department.
Spring Musical
Each spring, the Middle School Drama Department produces a musical on the Espiritu Santo stage. Students are involved as actors and stagehands, as well as playing roles in set design, costuming, and house responsibilities. Past musicals have included the Music Man Jr., Alice in Wonderland Jr., the Little Mermaid Jr., and Peter Pan Jr.
